Theories of Crime and Punishment: The Indigenous Population in the Correctional Facilities

The correctional system is a collection of agencies responsible for policy formulation, prisons, parole. What these system entails are captured in theoretical explanations of crimes and punishments. These theories explain why and how offenders instigate these crimes, the issues surrounding it, and the consequences involved. In the United States the correctional system is over represented by the indigenous people. Indigenous people, in this case, refers to Blacks, Native Americans, Hispanic and poor whites. This article seeks to establish a cultural exploration of theories of crime and punishment and their effects on the Indigenous population.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Outcomes in College Students

This panel provides and in-depth look at Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) exposure and subsequent negative outcomes. The presentations included herein utilize data collected in Fall 2022 on a sample of 1400 college students at a rural, Southeastern university and explore the relationship between ACE exposure and topics such as personality development, mental health, academic success, social integration, and delinquency. Directions for future research will be discussed.
